Executive Summary
PlayNest is a concept for a community-centred play cafe: a recreational space for the community designed to be inclusive of a wide range of needs. As a parent of young children, it can be a daily struggle to find places that support both caregivers and children as they grow. Parents in Wellington need more spaces that reduce the mental load of parenting, even if only for a moment. They need a place where they can sit, share a drink, and know that their children are engaged in beneficial play.
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide an accessible, welcoming space in central Wellington where parents can take a break, children can learn and be challenged through play, and families can build meaningful new connections. We want everyone to leave feeling fulfilled, supported and connected, without a high price barrier.
Our Vision
PlayNest’s vision is to create a vibrant, safe space where children can explore, learn, and grow through imaginative play, while parents relax and connect. PlayNest will offer a unique experience for families in Wellington, combining engaging, purposeful play areas with a comfortable café environment. We aim to foster a community where everyone feels welcome and supported, bringing together parents, caregivers, and children from all walks of life across Wellington.
We envision a space with a separate fenced play area, including designated areas for babies and preschoolers within the larger space, alongside opportunities for imaginative play, creative arts, gross-motor and fine-motor activities. The space will be inclusive of neurodivergent children and people with sensory differences, while also providing comfortable seating for adults to relax and enjoy the space.
Our Values
Our values reflect equity, inclusiveness, and environmental responsibility. Wherever possible, we will source our play equipment and resources from New Zealand companies and choose natural materials, such as wood, rather than plastic, to create a warm, authentic feel.
We want our staff and volunteers, as well as the adults and children who use our space, to feel supported, valued, seen, and understood.

We hold a range of bookable activities and designated community days. Our easy online booking system makes it simple to book for our messy play or adult paint and sip sessions.
